A four year runner on cross-country, at one point Dana (class of 1959) held a Lee Academy cross-country record and he helped to lead the 1959 squad to a regional title. He himself had a second-place finish at the state championships. He also played two years of varsity basketball, averaging 20 points per game his senior year. As a four year baseball player he had a career average around .375 and was an outstanding pitcher. Dana’s excellence on the mound earned him a tryout with the Milwaukee Braves. He pitched in their farm system in 1959 and 1960 at the AA and AAA level. In 1961 Dana pitched in the Dodgers farm system before being drafted into the army. In 1965 he took up golf and became one of Maine’s best amateur golfers.
