The Maine Connection:
Did you know that Lee Academy has an educational partnership with Daegu International School (DIS) in Daegu, South Korea? Did you know that the DIS Headmaster and many of the teachers at DIS are from Maine?
Headmaster Gus LeBlanc spent three weeks In October and again in January at Lee Academy’s Daegu International School (DIS) in Daegu, South Korea. Lee Academy and Daegu International School enjoy a “partnership in educational excellence.” As Headmaster of Lee Academy and Chairperson of the Board of Directors at DIS, Mr. LeBlanc meets twice annually with the Board, a nine-member body whose members currently come from South Korea and the United States. On behalf of Lee Academy and the DIS Board of Directors, Mr. LeBlanc is currently involved in a curriculum and operations audit along with the DIS Headmaster Chris Murphy. Mr. LeBlanc continues to work with DIS school administration to confirm the alignment of curriculum and operations of the Lee Academy and Daegu International School for the purpose of accreditation.
Daegu International School offers K-12 curriculum and is widely regarded as one of South Korea’s best international schools. The Lee Academy partnership with Daegu International School began eight years ago and today a number of teachers at DIS are from the United States and many of those teachers are actually from Maine. The University of Maine at Farmington actually partners with Daegu International School and Lee Academy to place student teachers at DIS.
The photo gallery shows the beauty of the DIS campus and its surroundings and introduce you to the teachers connected to Maine.
